Conversation in Bioethics Perspectives on Informed Consent in Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy Clinical Research Date: October 29 from 12:00PM to 1:30PM EST Speakers: Heather Spiegel Paola Cubillos, MHSc Bioethics Dr. Daniel Rosenbaum Moderator: Dr. Daniel Buchman REGISTER HERE As psychedelic-assisted therapy becomes the focus of clinical trials in Canada, and globally, there is a renewed recognition of the ethical challenges they present. Informed consent, the cornerstone of ethical clinical research, faces unique and underexamined challenges in this context, from the heightened vulnerability and suggestibility that psychedelic substances induce, to the therapeutic misconception fuelled by media enthusiasm. This CBS Conversation will provide perspectives from research ethics, clinical psychedelic research and from a former clinical trial participant, to examine what informed consent currently looks like in psychedelic research, where the gaps are, and what researchers, ethics boards, and regulators should consider to ensure adequate informed consent practices in this setting.
