Samuel Streicher, MD Candidate at uOttawa will present this edition of Regional Ethics Rounds.

This work explores the right to refuse treatment and the role of ableism in related judicial proceedings. Specifically, a review of past cases whereby courts determined that state interests outweighed a capacitated patient’s right to refuse treatment suggests that the ambiguously defined state interest in preserving life may allow for bias against disabled individuals to bleed into case outcomes.
