Freedom of Expression and Regulatory Reach in Health Care: An Ethics View – A Dossetor Centre Health Ethics Symposium

Pre-registration required, free to attend, everyone welcome!  12:00 -13:00 MST

KEYNOTE SPEAKER:
Eric Wasylenko, MD, CCFP (PC) retired, MHSc (bioethics)
Associate Clinical Professor
John Dossetor Health Ethics Centre, University of Alberta

In this seminar we will explore the balancing of freedom of expression and professional
regulation in health disciplines, using the lens of ethics. We will address some of the
philosophic underpinnings for protection of freedom of expression, and the objectives of
professional regulation. Are there justifiable limits on freedoms to express personal views in
clinicians’ private and professional lives? A frame for managing potentially competing
imperatives will be proposed.
